West Cork Rally 2019 to be a counting round of both BRC and ITRC
Cork Motor Club who have promoted and organised the West Cork Rally for the past 40 years are pleased to announce that their flagship event will be a counting round of next years British Rally Championship. The rally is already a round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship and for 2019 St. Patricks weekend will see the first of two crossover events in the respective championships.
Greg McCarthy will be Clerk of the Course for the fifth year and he said “We are delighted to have been approached by the BRC, and it’s a great reflection on our event. The rally has progressed greatly since becoming a full round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. I think it will be great for the championship to have another event as joint rounds. We have always tried to change things around year on year, so there will be some differences but the event will run on pretty much the same way as it always has.”
Iain Campbell, BRC Manager said “we have been working with the Tarmac Championship for a while now and we listen to competitors from Ireland who support the BRC strongly. The timing of the West Cork Rally works well for both championships at the start of the season. I visited West Cork this year to see the rally and the area. St. Patricks weekend in southern Ireland on classic roads is a weekend that all will enjoy.”
The full 2019 calendar will be announced in due course.
