The penultimate round of the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship, Dayinsure Wales Rally GB got underway in spectacular style under the floodlights of Tir Prince this evening with the Skoda Fabia R5 duo of Rhys Yates and Elliott Edmondson topping the BRC time sheets after the opening stage – Visit Conwy Tir Prince.
Yates wowed the crowds with an entertaining performance to lead the BRC field overnight from championship leaders Matt Edwards and Darren Garrod with David Bogie and John Rowan rounding out the top three.
In the Prestone MSA Motorsport News Junior BRC Norwegian Steve Rokland with Welsh co-driver Dai Roberts sat alongside punched in the fastest two-wheel-drive BRC time from William Creighton in second and Finlay Retson in third.
Retson leads the Cadet Cup as the young Scot carried his Ulster winning form onto the Welsh gravel. Bart Lang holds second while Jordan Reynolds rounds out the top three. Johnnie Mulholland had the honour of opening a WRC round with thousands of spectators and the WRC stars looking on. The Irishman drove brilliantly to hold fourth in the Cadet series.
