Global tyre giant Hankook Tire will return to the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship in 2022 with a powerhouse of top-flight contenders aiming to give the manufacturer the coveted BRC title.
After making a comeback to the front-running series in 2021 with four-time British Rally Champion Keith Cronin, the Hankook brand of tyre will now adorn Scotsman Garry Pearson’s Ford Fiesta Rally2 in a bid for top honours in the coveted BRC1 category.
Cronin, from Ballylickey in Ireland contested last years series in a Fiesta Rally2 but would tackle a part programme, centered around the gravel rounds on the calendar and rounding out his season with the championship finale’, the Ulster Rally. Fourth at the Grampian Forest Rally was a highlight as he assisted in the development of the new rubber for the harsh stages of the championship but will look to build on last year’s results with a full campaign, this time behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Polo GTi R5.
Joining him will be Pearson who makes the switch to the full BRC after a breath-taking season in 2021, claiming the Scottish, Welsh, BTRDA and National Rally titles in a Skoda Fabia R5. With Cronin’s unrivalled experience and Pearson’s recent formbook, the Hankook brand is ready for another exciting season of the BRC.
UK Distributors Mr Tyre Motorsport will be present on each round of the season and Rally Manager Steve Harkness is eager to see how the season will progress for the brand after its 2021 comeback.
“Last season was very much a development season for Hankook Tire and we are looking forward to pushing forward with everything we have learnt from 2021,” he says.
“The BRC offers a great proving ground for the product and of course having Keith [Cronin] and Garry [Pearson] on board this season puts us right at the front of the BRC title fight and we are looking forward to getting the opening round underway this weekend in Clacton”.
Hankook Tire boasts over 80-years of experience and is now one of the largest tire makers in the world. The company is involved in the TCR Europe and W Series circuit-based championships to name but a few.
