BRC4 contender Stephen Waugh makes his return to the British Rally Championship at this weekend’s Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, after a mammoth effort to rebuild his Fiesta R2T following his Ulster Rally accident.
A monumental shift from Waugh and a quick turnaround from Conwy Motorsport Engineering, means he is set to contest only his second gravel rally of the season and will do so with support from new sponsors North Wales Scaffolding, RS Scaffolding, We Scaffold Any House.com and Llwyn Landscapes.
After the Ulster crash, close inspection back at base found that the damage was much worse than first thought, and resulted in a full shell strip and a session at Conwy Motorsport Engineering to get everything re-aligned, newly fabricated and replaced. Arriving back at the Fleetsmart base just 7 days ago, Stephen, a former no1 WRC technician with the M-Sport World Rally Team, has worked day and night to almost single handedly return the car to full rally ready condition.
Team Principal Garry Whitney said “I can’t thank everyone enough for going above and beyond expectations to get the car sorted for the weekend. The guys at CME dropped everything to get the shell onto the Jig and back with us in super quick time and it was no surprise that it took the support of three Scaffolding Companies to get the job done! Joking aside Stephen has fully redeemed himself following his late crash in Ulster and has done a fantastic re-fit. Of course It’s also thanks to the new sponsors stepping in for the last two rounds of the season means we can all now look forward to this weekend and the final round in our back garden, the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally.”
Waugh said “I’m very excited to get this weekend’s event underway, it’s been a long and tiring 10 days or so but we’re done and I can’t wait to get back onto the Gravel in the infamous stages of Yorkshire. Thanks again to everyone who has made this possible. Ulster could very easily have been a season ending accident!”
