Pearson feels proud with Grampian pace

Garry Pearson produced one of his best British Rally Championship (BRC) performances to date at the Grampian Forest Rally in Aberdeenshire.

The Scottish rally driver finished just 11.3 seconds shy of a podium place in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally2 at the August 8-9 event, despite an unfortunate puncture that cost him over 30s.

Pearson and co-driver Hannah McKillop arrived in Banchory for the fourth round of the BRC in good form – winning the RSAC Scottish Rally in the championship’s two-month summer break.

Having shown clear progression throughout the 2025 season so far, Pearson’s stated aim was a podium finish and he was firmly in the fight for that after Friday evening’s opening two stages.

However a rear-left puncture on Saturday morning dealt him a cruel blow and dropped the Duns driver down to seventh overall, prompting a gutsy fightback.

Winning his first stage of the BRC season by a dominant 4.3s, Pearson was on a charge and reeled off top three time after top three time, climbing back up to fourth overall come the end of the 10-stage rally with some epic driving.

While that meant Pearson missed out on another podium, he was rightly proud of his comeback drive having shown such strong pace on some slippery and challenging stages.

“Nothing in rallying ever comes easy, and we were certainly reminded of that at the Grampian. It’s hard not to feel disappointed with the unlucky puncture, but I think we have to be proud of the way we fought back.

“The British Rally Championship is as competitive as it’s ever been so to win stages and be fighting with Junior world champions is testament to all the hard work Hannah and I have been putting in. While fourth isn’t a result that ultimately satisfies us, we achieved this one in a battling way.

“However this weekend only makes us hungrier as we continue our mission to keep fighting for the podium and the top step in the future. Thanks to the team for a great car as always, and all of our sponsors and supporters for making it all happen.”
