Pearson aims for podium on home soil

Garry Pearson aims to build on his exceptional start to the British Rally Championship (BRC) season at next week’s Borders Competitions Jim Clark Rally (May 22/23).

Pearson made his best ever start to Britain’s premier rallying series last month with a third-place podium finish at the Severn Valley Stages in Wales, leaving him an early third in an ultra-competitive championship race.

That provided plenty of encouragement to the M-Sport Ford driver as the following three events – starting with the Jim Clark – should suit him better as he has greater experience of the stages.

However the Jim Clark Rally – sponsored by Pearson’s title partner Borders Competitions – is one of the toughest challenges of the year with two days, and close to 100 miles, of flat-out racing through the Tarmac country lanes of the Scottish Borders.

An increased number of competitors will take the start in Duns for round two of the BRC, making a podium challenge even trickier. But Pearson and co-driver Hannah McKillop are confident in their ability as they once again look to place their Ford Fiesta Rally2 in the top-three on Saturday.

The 34-year-old will then compete in the third round of the Asset Alliance Group Scottish Rally Championship on Sunday, the Jim Clark Reivers Rally, following his victory at the Border Counties Rally in March.

Garry Pearson said:

“I’m really proud of the start we made to 2026, and I don’t plan to ruin that momentum from the Severn Valley at the Jim Clark.

“There’s usually a bit more outside expectation on us here given it’s my local rally, but nothing changes for me: it’s worth the same 25 points for the championship as any other event and we treat it no differently.

“After our podium at round one, I’d love to repeat that at round two. We know how good our opposition is, and there are a few more names in the mix this time, so it won’t be easy, but we are confident in the car and team and feel ready for the challenge.

“I’m also looking forward to competing in the Jim Clark Reivers on Sunday, which will be another big challenge. The Scottish championship is not our primary focus this year but after our victory at the Border Counties we have another opportunity to record a strong result and enjoy more seat-time in our M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally2.”
