Cambrian Crunch Time – Who needs to do what to claim the BRC titles

The Probite British Rally Championship reaches its thrilling conclusion this weekend at the Cambrian Rally, with three drivers still in contention for the prestigious title.

The phrase “going down to the wire” perfectly sums up the situation, meaning the championship will be decided right at the very end, with the final stages of the final rally determining who becomes 2025 champion.

Three-Way Fight for the Crown

Leading the charge is William Creighton, co-driven by Liam Regan. The Motorsport Ireland duo have enjoyed a strong season, taking two wins and arriving in North Wales with the upper hand. For Creighton, the title equation is simple; finish eighth or higher, and he will be crowned British Rally Champion.

That result would see his name join an illustrious list of previous champions, including Colin McRae, Roger Clark, Ari Vatanen and Elfyn Evans.

Hot on his heels is Meirion Evans alongside Dale Furniss, who have one maximum score to their name. For the Welsh pairing to snatch the title, Creighton must retire, and Evans would then need to win the rally outright to take the crown on home soil.

The third contender, Estonia’s Romet Jürgenson with Siim Oja, took victory at Carlisle and finished second at Rali Ceredigion. Their title hopes are also dependent on Creighton’s retirement, and, like Evans, they must win the Cambrian Rally to become champions.

Junior BRC Title Also to Be Settled

The Junior British Rally Championship (JBRC) battle is a straight shootout between Kyle McBride and Joseph Kelly, both driving Peugeot 208 Rally4’s. The JBRC winner earns a £6000 prize fund plus free entries to all 2026 BRC rounds, so the stakes are high.

McBride holds the advantage, he simply needs to finish the event to secure enough points for the title. Kelly’s only chance lies in a retirement for McBride, but he would still need a strong result himself to lift the crown.

National Rally Title: Hand vs Cotton

In the Motorsport UK National Rally Title, it’s another two-horse race between Chris Richmond Hand and Rob Cotton. With Izzie Holman already confirmed as co-drivers’ champion, attention turns solely to the drivers’ battle.

Hand will be hoping for misfortune to strike Cotton, as only a non-finish for the Subaru driver would open the door for him to claim the title. Cotton, meanwhile, simply needs solid points to seal his first National crown; a true David vs Goliath contest to round off the season.

With championships on the line and conditions set to test crews to the limit, the Cambrian Rally promises an unforgettable finale to what has been a fiercely competitive 2025 British Rally Championship season.
