One of Britain’s brightest rallying talents, Chris Ingram, will contest this year’s Probite British Rally Championship in a shock move which sees the 2019 FIA European Rally Champion return to the series he last contested in 2013.
Since his last outing in the BRC over ten years ago, the 29-year-old has blazed a trail in international competition, following an impressive career path with has seen him take category wins at European level, before becoming the first English ERC champion in over 50 years.
Ingram has since thrown his hat into the ring of the hotly contested FIA World Rally Championship WRC2 category, going head-to-head with the World’s elite drivers and returning a string of impressive results during each of his assaults on the series.
After unveiling his latest WRC2 campaign at Monaco’s famous harbourside ahead of Rallye Monte Carlo, complete with Prince Albert II of Monaco assisting in the reveal, Ingram has been drawn back to the BRC for 2024 in a thrilling announcement from the top-flight ace. He will be co-driven by Alex Kihurani.
“I am absolutely buzzing to announce my entry into the 2024 British Rally Championship alongside a highly esteemed British team, with Alex Kihurani returning as my co-driver after a short break due to personal reasons” says Ingram.
“This year’s BRC British Rally Championship is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory. The amazing news that ITV Sport is covering the championship will be a great boost for the sport and provide superb promotion for my partners.
“Alex and I showed a strong pace in Europe last year despite a limited programme, so I can’t wait to see how we can progress this year working consistently with a team that has a huge amount of experience.
“The British Championship includes some incredible new events, such as the North West Rally, 45 minutes drive from Manchester, taking place on closed public roads and bringing in hundreds of thousands of pounds to the local economy. Around 50 Rally2 cars alone are entered, and last time there were more spectators than many FIA rallies.
“More highlights include Rounds 5&6, the European Rally Championship returning to Wales at Rali Ceredigion, as well as classics like the Jim Clark Rally in Scotland.
“The BRC will provide more return on investment than competing in WRC2 as a privateer. With the BRC gaining momentum, featuring exciting new events, national television coverage, and top-tier competition, the choice is clear.
“My intention is to return to WRC2 stronger, later in the year, once we have established solid foundations for the future.
“I cannot wait to be back driving in the UK, competing in the BRC almost monthly from March onwards will provide me with the opportunity and stability to focus on a full season, something I have not had for several years, and to test my skills against some of the UK and Ireland’s finest drivers. Ingram will announce his team, car and partners in the coming weeks, ahead of his home rally and the first round of the season, the Legend Fires North West Stages.
