Twenty nineteen British Rally Championship Cadet Cup victor Rupert Flynn will be looking to make the most out of his step up to the Junior BRC this season, driving an EDSL Sport Ford Fiesta Rally4.
Despite a remarkably short career in the sport, Flynn made his first foray into stage rallying in 2019, contesting the BRC Cadet cup in a Fiesta R2. Winning the title, Flynn would step up into another Fiesta from the EDSL Sport stable, this time the 1.0litre Ecoboost R2T for the 2020 season, taking fifth in the Junior BRC before the COVID pandemic brought a halt to the championship.
Now, with the latest evolution of junior machinery, Flynn will drive a Fiesta Rally4 in the Junior series and will go head to head with a healthy entry list of youngsters aiming to win the coveted prize of an opportunity to drive a Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing i20 N Rally2 at a round of the World Rally Championship in 2022.
Co-driven by Jamie Mactavish, the 19-year old from Kent has set himself more realistic goals this season.
“This will very much be a learning year for me as I really need to get experience of not only the Rally4 Fiesta, but the events as well” says Flynn.
“Most of the events will be new to me aside from the Cambrian and Ulster so there is plenty to work on during the season. I would have liked more experience in the R2T Fiesta last year but of course that wasn’t to be so I have set myself some pretty low expectations as far as results are concerned.“
“The competition out front will be very impressive so I think the main aim will be looking for top five Junior result during the last part of the year. I have said to myself that I wont be looking at the front running times to begin with and that should let me just develop at my own pace. Oulton Park is probably the perfect start to the season for me. It’s a really controlled environment to kick the season off with”.
