Estonian Romet Jürgenson is primed for his debut in the Probite British Rally Championship next weekend after an impressive performance at WRC Rally Sweden. The FIA Rally Star winner and 2024 FIA Junior WRC champ finished 7th in the ultra-competitive WRC2 category on only his second ever event in Rally2 machinery.
Jürgenson’s Rally Sweden performance was even more impressive as it was only his second attempt at the highly specialised event, and now he will head to the opening round of the BRC with confidence as he represents the M-Sport Ford Rally Team in a Ford Fiesta Rally2 with co-driver Siim Oja.
“It was a really solid result in my first event in WRC2 and second ever event in a Rally2 [car]” Jürgenson told the FIA World Rally Championship.
“When you look at the loss that we had to the fastest [WRC2] its under one second per kilometre constantly which is really decent, I was ready to lose more to be honest. To get this solid result for the beginning of the season is very good”.
The rapid 25-year-old will contest a WRC2 programme with the M-Sport squad as his prize for winning last year’s Junior WRC title. Much like William Creighton last season and even 2023 champion Adrien Fourmaux, the Cumbria outfit were eager to offer as much seat time as possible, citing the BRC as the perfect platform thanks to its mixed-surface format.
“Before [our next WRC2 round] we have the British Rally Championship with M-Sport so we have a packed schedule which is good for my development. [One of the reasons we are doing the BRC] is to get more experience and be more in the car. Malcolm [Wilson] and Rich [Millener] gave me the chance, so it looks like they want me there doing well during the season”.
The British Rally Championship will provide a fresh test for the Estonian. His entry into the BRC brings additional excitement to the championship which gets underway at the East Riding Stages on 23 February in Yorkshire.
