2018 Cadet Cup frontrunner Bart Lang will step up to the Junior British Rally Championship in 2019. After a difficult year with only three outings in his older-style Fiesta R2 – Lang has decided to switch early and will pilot a Fiesta R2T in the upcoming season with Sinclair Young calling the notes. A regular rallying and track driving instructor, Bart has long dreamed to be able to compete at this level of the sport.
A test is planned to get a solid base set-up on the car ready for the Cambrian Rally in just over two weeks and the 2017 English Junior and Rally First Champion is raring to go.
“After moving from the little Nissan Micra into the Fiesta R2, we had to learn very quickly in 2018! From the faster car, to the longer events and making our own notes for the first time, we had it all to do.
“However, we won stages on each event and won our class in Ypres, so we showed what we’re capable of and will be refining the formula to perfection this year. I must remember I’ve only had two-and-a-half real seasons rallying and only three events in an R2 car, so to come within a hair’s breadth of the championship last year was brilliant!
“I have spent the winter improving my pacenotes, trying new cars, working on my psychology and honing my fitness for 2019. Even better, we have Myerscough University Centre’s fantastic students and lecturers supporting us, so we know we have top support once again.
“We tried both of the more affordable cars eligible for the championship, the Peugeot 208 and Fiesta R2T and both were very different, but equally awesome. After the BRC, Pirelli and M-Sport announced their generous prize to help people into the WRC, we decided to go with the Fiesta.
“Our new R2 Turbo is a weapon in the right hands, and while the latest generation one will be far faster, we are still very grateful for being able to compete in this amazing car. I can’t wait to fight hard, drive fast and show everyone what we can do!”
