Volunteer marshals at the JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion were handed a very special treat by Junior BRC front-runner Ioan Lloyd.
The 20 year-old hotshot from Llandysul in West Wales was contesting his second event in the Junior BRC this season and elected to reward a number of marshals for giving up their free time to ensure the rally could run safely and smoothly.
When stopping at time controls during the two day-Aberystwyth based rally, Lloyd and co-driver Sion Williams would hand the timing crews a hand written note, thanking them for their time and support, along with a picture of the crew.
But along with the gesture, was a National Lottery ticket, in the hope that they would win big during the next draw and make the trip to assist the event, a profitable one!
“I just wanted to give something back” said Lloyd.
“Every one of the marshals out there at the weekend and indeed every motorsport event give up their time to allow us to do the sport we love, and we simply can’t do it without them. It wasn’t much really, just some handwritten thank you notes and a card from Sion and I, but I thought the lottery ticket would go a little further and offer a small gesture of thanks, after all they deserve it”.
Lloyd returned to the Junior BRC at the Ulster Rally but took his first career victory when he romped home as the Junior winner at Rali Ceredigion in front of a home crowd.
The Peugeot 208 Rally4 pilot has elected not to score points and interfere with the championship which he entered late but has enjoyed his return to the series in 2023.
“It’s been great to be back and nice to compete in front of all my family and friends at Ceredigion. I haven’t heard if anyone won – if they have, I hope they remember me.”
