McRae makes Junior British Rally Championship return

Max McRae will return to the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship next weekend [26-27 May] as he tackles the Beatson’s Building Supplies Jim Clark Rally behind the wheel of an Opel Corsa Rally4.

McRae, son of 1995 BRC champion Alister will kick off his FIA European Rally Championship programme this weekend end Poland, before heading straight to Duns in the Scottish Borders for the second round of the BRC.

He will be returning to the hotly contested Junior British Rally Championship category after making his debut at the Nicky Grist Stages in 2022 where he finished third in a Fiesta Rally4.

Now, the progressive youngster will return to his roots and not only gain additional seat time for his ERC campaign but also offers a chance to compete back in Scotland once again.

The 18-year-old has arguably one of the most famous family names in rallying, with Grandfather Jimmy currently the only driver to win five BRC titles, his Uncle Colin was also able to secure back-to-back championship wins in 1991 and 1992.

Father Alister secured the British title in a Nissan Sunny GTi in 1995 and now Max has another opportunity to go head to head with the Junior BRC regulars. Co-driven by Irishman Mac Kierans, McRae is also well aware of the heritage behind the Borders based event.

“Like you can imagine, the Jim Clark Rally is an event every Scottish driver wants to compete on – Jim Clark is one of the biggest names in motorsport” says McRae. And the rally in his name is a really interesting one.

“The event has a great history, it used to go through the night – there were some great stories from the event. It’s changed a bit down the years, but the roads are still a very big challenge. The chance to do the Jim Clark is going to give us a really useful test for the Tarmac rounds of the ERC which lie ahead.

“But as well as that, competing on the Jim Clark Rally is something really nice for the family here in Scotland. I’m sure it’ll be a great weekend.”
