Those who remember William Woollard’s Top Gear Rally Reports from the Lombard RAC Rally as it was then will remember the legend and fear that ‘Killer Keilder’ instilled into the competitor. Round 3, the Pirelli Carlisle Rally takes the series back onto gravel, with all the tests based in the largest forest complex in the UK. The roads are fast, narrow and have huge ditches on either side of the road to catch out the unwary.
Starting right in the heart of the Pirelli factory the event will see four tests take place out by Kielder Dam on Saturday afternoon, early evening. Adding to the challenge will be the fact that a remote service will be the only respite the crews will get in-between the stages.
Sunday sees a final three stages before the finish back in Carlisle. When you cross that finishing ramp after 75 competitive miles in Kielder, you know you have done a hard, fast rally.
