Rally Prep to run new Toyota GT86 CS-R3 in the 2016 MSA British Rally Championship
British rally spectators are set to witness the return of Toyota to the UK’s premier rally series with the announcement today that leading British motorsport preparation operation Rally Prep will run a factory-approved GT86 CS-R3 on selected rounds of the 2016 British Rally Championship.
The announcement follows months of planning, and ensures that one of the most engaging and attractive R3 cars, developed and produced by Toyota Motorsport GmbH, will be competing in the UK and Ireland at the highest level. The CS-R3 will start on the first round of the BRC – the Mid Wales stages on March 5 2016. The crew is set to be announced at a later date.
Being the only rear-wheel-drive car currently homologated to R3 specification, the GT86 CS-R3 is set to serve up an incredible spectacle for rally fans and drivers alike. Toyota has a strong history in the BRC with David Llewellin claiming back to back titles in a Celica in 1989 and 1990 before Jonny Milner repeated that feat with the Corolla WRC in 2002 and 2003. The new GT86 CS-R3 is certain to make its own history and be a crowd pleasing addition to the re-launched British Rally Championship in 2016.
Commenting on the announcement, Rally Prep Managing Director Neil Yates said: “We’re delighted to be involved in bringing the Toyota GT86 CS-R3 to the BRC. We have followed its development closely and know that it will over incredible value and entertainment for drivers and spectators. This is a fabulously designed and engineered car and I think it’s a perfect fit for the new BRC.”
