Rally Isle of Man

Rally Info

The final round of the 2016 MSA British Rally Championship season takes us to the Isle of Man.  A place steeped in motorsport history and passion.  With 160 competitive miles on offer over two and a half days this will be a real challenge that will see the BRC Champion crowned at the end of it.  With such a challenge, double points are on offer so any season long battle could go down to the very last special stage.

2014 BRC Champion, Dan McKenna gives his views on the rally, “It’s such a special event. The island is steeped in motorsport history with the TT races and also the rallying. I have competed on both the national and international rallies and the islands stages are a real challenge.”

“There are so many different characteristics to the roads on different parts of the island. You have everything to test crew and car. It can be narrow, tight and twisty on very bumpy roads or it can be very fast, flowing and wide on smooth roads and all of this maybe even in one stage.”

“It’s a rally of high attrition, with high milage, night stages and town super specials which are always tricky, and with no let up means it will test cars to the limit.”

“The biggest challenge however is the weather. The sun could be splitting the sky or it could be lashing from the heavens all within 10 miles of each other. In changeable conditions you are rarely on the right tyre. I found the changable grip levels extremely difficult. Shiney tar, abrasive tar, slippy and greasy under trees and maybe bone dry in the open, again all in one stage. Not easy!”

“A brilliant event with loads of history and it’s so special to recognise nearly every corner and every section of the stages from watching videos of the world’s best drivers who also took on this famous event down through the years, not to mention the TT course.”
